Much hilarity at Hillary Clinton's citation of the Bible as her most formative influence.

However critical of her I may be, it is clear that people's real problem here is with the very notion of Biblically inspired politics.

In 1906, the first ever survey of Labour MPs, of whom there were then 45, found that the huge majority said exactly the same thing: that their politics had been defined by reading the Bible.

By contrast, a mere two of those 45 had ever even read Marx, still less professed to have been at all influenced by him.
