Spinning The Sun Wheel

There is a fuss over the use of the Sonnenrad by a Ron DeSantis campaign staffer, but the United States already supplies cluster bombs to people who march into battle under the Sonnenrad and the Wolfsangel, while the United Kingdom already supplies them with the weapon of mass destruction that is depleted uranium.

If you are content with Joe Biden, you would be with Kamala Harris, and you would have been with Al Gore, John Kerry and Hillary Clinton, then your objections to George W. Bush and Donald Trump are purely to bad taste. Bush openly voted for Biden, presumably will again, and probably voted for Clinton. Your distaste may or may not be well-founded, but it has no basis in policy or philosophy. There were such grounds for pleasure in the defeats of John McCain and Mitt Romney, but there was none for any in the victories of Barack Obama.

Indeed, while Trump threatens a Second American Civil War, although that has been said of every Republican Presidential nominee since 1968, Biden is already waging a Third World War as we know that only a Democrat could, since we know which is our film of the summer. For a day and a half a few weeks ago, the Wagner Group were supposed to have been Our Boys. We have had worse, as we still do. But now they are become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds again, what with the coup in Niger, and the removal of French as an official language in Mali, and all the rest of it, including, as seemingly forever, in Ukraine.

Cornel West is ready, willing and able, so Americans do not have to chose between a Third World War and a Second Civil War, comical though it is to imagine the present base of either party trying to fight one. Nor, in Britain, do we have to chose between a Government that supplied the Sonnenrad with depleted uranium, and an Opposition that would merrily send it nuclear weapons.

When I tell you that there is going to be a hung Parliament, then you can take that to the bank. I spent the 2005 Parliament saying that it was psephologically impossible for the Heir to Blair's Conservative Party to win an overall majority. I predicted a hung Parliament on the day that the 2017 General Election was called, and I stuck to that, entirely alone, all the way up to the publication of the exit poll eight long weeks later. And on the day that Rishi Sunak became Prime Minister, I predicted that a General Election between him and Keir Starmer would result in a hung Parliament.

To strengthen families and communities by securing economic equality and international peace through the democratic political control of the means to those ends, including national and parliamentary sovereignty, we need to hold the balance of power. Owing nothing to either main party, we must be open to the better offer. There does, however, need to be a better offer. Not a lesser evil, which in any case the Labour Party is not.
