Class Room

Of course they never thought about BTEC. I also did three arts A-levels at a school Sixth Form, and then went to a collegiate university. You can take it from me that no one in politics or the upper reaches of the Civil Service knows what a BTEC or a Sixth Form college is.

A Sixth Form is part of a school, while a college is part of a university, although the word also sometimes occurs in the names of schools, such as Boris Johnson's Eton College, or Rishi Sunak's Winchester College. "BTEC" would strike our lords and masters as Cyrillic script. Except that they would be more likely to be able to read Cyrillic script out loud than to tell you what "BTEC" said.
