186 Conservative MPs, more than half the total, did not vote for the Covert Human Intelligence Sources (Criminal Conduct) Bill. No way did anything like that many of them have leave of absence from the Whips. Yet not a single one of them, not even David Davis, could manage to vote against it.
All of 20 MPs did that. One was a member of the SDLP. Two were members of Plaid Cymru. And the remaining 17 were exactly half of the Socialist Campaign Group of Labour MPs. There is no reason for anyone else to continue to receive Short Money. It should be divided equally among those MPs who did in fact provide an Opposition.
In each constituency in 2024, there should be one candidate, of any party or none, who subscribed to this and this. The complete list of those candidates would appear here, and anywhere else that would publish it. If I could raise enough money to be a viable candidate, then I would contest the seat where the most people had offered to sign my nomination papers. Please give generously.
