Common Security?

There are those, including almost all Labour MPs, who insist on support for NATO because of the role of the Attlee Government in its creation.

But they rarely, if ever, take that view of the public ownership of the commanding heights of the economy, and they rarely do so much more than notionally in relation to the National Health Service.

Yet neither of those was also founded by extremely recent Nazi Officers, nor does either of them commit us to the defence of today's Eastern European neo-Nazis, or of Turkish Islamists, or, very soon, of Latin American caudillos.

Add in these selective Attlee-invokers' record on civil liberties during their 13 years in power, and while they may profess to be keen on "defence", they are actively hostile to anything that might be worth defending.

Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. A new party is now in the process of registration.

After nearly 30 years of suggestion, speculation, and even a sort of preparation, I will stand for Parliament here at North West Durham. The crowdfunding page is here, and buy the book here. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
