There are those who persist in believing that "traditional values", as they themselves define such things, are passed down in the Royal Family, the old aristocracy, the public schools, and the Armed Forces, making the products of those institutions uniquely fit to rule in the service of timeless verities rather than transient fashions.
Such people have hitherto been impervious to overwhelming evidence, but even they might consider that a person in whom all four of those formative influences met was about to become a co-parent to a child who had already been described variously as "gender neutral" and "gender fluid".
Not that that child will be either "gender neutral" or "gender fluid" as an adult. In 50 years' time, when it is just possible that I might still be alive, no one who was then under 40 will believe that any of this ever happened.
Indeed, it is unlikely to take even that long. "False memories", "recovered memories" and "multiple personalities" were all the rage as recently as the 1990s. Yet, so to speak, who remembers them now?
