Believe these things when you see them, of course. But the rumour is now quite persistent that Donald Trump might nominate Jim Webb as the next Secretary of Defense.
Trump could do a lot worse. He already has.
And Trump owes his election to the votes of people who had previously voted twice for Barack Obama, but who simply could not stomach Hillary Clinton. Webb is openly such a person.
He is also eminently qualified for the position, and seriously committed to the noninterventionist foreign policy that did so much to secure Trump first the nomination and then the Presidency.
Within the Administration, Webb's opponents would be the draft-dodging likes of John Bolton. That would not even be a contest.
Bring him on.
