No Ifs, No Buts

The reduction of net immigration per year "to the tens of thousands" was David Cameron's own choice of ground.

On that ground, he has been beaten to a pulp.

There is no other way of looking at this. None.

  1. What a surprise. Parties that pretend we can stay in the EU (signatories to a founding charter that enshrines freedom of movement in law) and reduce immigration turn out to be lying. Who knew?

Perhaps the electorate will wake up, as Peter Hitchens says, and stop voting for such parties in future.

As he Tweeted yesterday "if you must vote UKIP is far preferable to all the others".

    Well, I couldn't agree more.

    1. Only one party has failed here.

And again, you regurgitate something that UKIP has either made up or copied out of a newspaper that made it up.

      Stupid boy.

    2. Ask him to explain the controls on EU immigration into every other member state, or the controls in the UK since there still are some, or the quite stringent ones here historically, or the ones proposed by Labour for after the Election. People say those would be undesirable but nobody says they would be illegal. You are right, Ukip either make it up or copy out things the Mail have made up so they can laugh when the Kippers repeat them. How they must laugh their little cotton socks off at the Mail several times every week.

    3. Mustn't they just?

But why bother asking him anything? UKIP's own star recruit has this week been going on about how successful immigration has been and how, as long been his stated view, there ought to be far more of it.

Three seats, at most. Quite possibly none. Either Farage or Carswell, whom even the Tories had more than enough trouble trying to accommodate, will have left UKIP by this time next year, and no doubt well before that.

    4. There is fury in certain business circles and in some places on the Continent at Labour's plans to restrict EU immigration to Britain but nobody denies it is possible, that is what they see as the problem, Labour could do it and they don't want that.

Like you say, every member state including this one has restrictions on EU migration, the question is which ones you want to have and that is up to you. Ukip are illiterates and the obscure MP recruit they thought was famous supports no immigration controls as any anarcho-capitalist has to.

    5. They are no longer worth worrying about. Three seats, at most. Quite possibly none. Either Farage or Carswell, whom even the Tories had more than enough trouble trying to accommodate, will have left UKIP by this time next year, and no doubt well before that.

    6. Immigration itself has gone off the boil, it's not the issue it was when Ukip won those byelections a few months ago.

    7. Very true.

And "won those by-elections" is pushing it. Secured the re-election of two incumbents. So what?

At least one of them is in any case a supporter of practically unrestricted immigration, and was already on record in those terms when UKIP welcomed him on the grounds that it had no political difference whatever from him.
