Conventionally Speaking
I have decided that if there ever is this Constitutional Convention, then I am going to be on it.
I'd put money on it but I'm even more gambling averse than you. Lay of the land round here, Labour are guaranteeing it by keeping you out of the party. You are the obvious go to "Independent" for the local Labour machine. If it happens, you'll be on it.
Any chance Maurice could get Ed to make sure you are on it? Previous comment also correct, though. Ha ha, You Know Who: you should have let Mr. L. back into your precious party.
Please, please do this. Assuming it will be based on Commons constituencies with at least some seats from each reserved for non-party people, many areas including this one will not exactly be spoilt for choice. Try finding anyone without a party but with the necessary knowledge as an activist with views not just an academic or a journalist. Here in NW Durham we would come up with one name. Yours.
He has always done a good line in village intellectual. When he is not surrounding himself with people far younger, he is surrounding himself with people far less well read and articulate. In awe of him one way or the other, if not both. He has never dared move to London or anything like that. Unfortunately I think you are right. Take out all the people in a place like this who might want to be on it but who are members of parties, mostly Labour, and you are pretty much down to one name. Add in that he seems to be big mates with some people very close to the next Prime Minister and it is in the bag for him. David Lindsay, Member of the Constitutional Convention. God help us all!
