The Thing About Melanie Phillips

Her "take over the world" e-publishing venture, parts of which were actually quite good, has published nothing in well over a year, and now rarely even tweets.

A lot of columnists' more obsessive followers think that those columnists are more important than politicians and ought to be running the country or the world. Polly Toynbee has them. Peter Hitchens has them. Owen Jones has them. James Delingpole has them.

But only Melanie Phillips believes it herself. Just see her latest article in The Spectator: "Here is what the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition must say, word for word, or else they are anti-Semites, because I say so, and I am Melanie Phillips."

She's finally lost it.

  1. More important than politicians or simply much better?

I could think of any number of people- not just a few columnists-who could do a better job of running the country than any of our "important politicians".

    Crikey it's not exactly hard.

  2. If the Prime Minister and the leader of the Opposition had any guts or principles they'd have condemned Israel 'a atrocities as loudly as Peter Hitchens has.

    They haven't. They're a cowardly disgrace.

  3. Phillips is detached from reality.

Israel is apparently the " victim " of terror, not the perpetrator of it.

I'm not sure what she's been watching.

    1. Of course, Israel is a victim. But you are right. She is now in a world of her own and of her increasingly cultish devotees'. It is very sad to see.
