Damascene Democracy

A Sisi-style 96.9 per cent would have been rigged. But Assad would probably have got 88.7 per cent, anyway.

Why rig an election, when you already know that you are going to win it?

There is no argument against this election in Syria that cannot be advanced against the recent effort in Ukraine.

  1. I hate to break it to Mr Obama but the Scots are going to vote Yes to independence.

I was there last weekend and the mood was obvious. People were passionately in favour of leaving.

It's all the fault of the stupid No campaign who totally misjudged the character of the British.

As did the media before the euro elections when their ceaseless smears only pushed more people to vote UKIP.

The Scots are a feisty independent-minded people.

And free peoples don't like to be blackmailed and threatened.

    I'm rather proud of that.

  3. From what? There are several hundred more SCR members than the Officers of that worthy body, and doesn't my Inbox know that I am still one of them? It does.

I gave up as President after rather a successful year because I could barely walk. The University Directory still lists me as Administrative Staff, and I am in most working days. My email address there still works, but I prefer my Hotmail one. I have a staff card. Of course.

I just cannot hobble all the way up to Collingwood for the time being.

Honestly, give it up. You are very, very silly.

Scotland will vote No even after Obama told them to. That is a whole other level of independent-mindedness. If he told some people to do something, then they would do the opposite out of spite or pique. But not the Scots. They really are making up their own minds.
