It is not a matter of regarding unemployment as "a price worth paying". As the Blairites that they are, the Coalition's members actively want unemployment, and the other causes and consequences of poverty, in order to exercise social control by instilling the fear of these things.
Or a "reserve army of labour" as your great intellectual adversary once said.
ReplyDeleteAnd how right he was, especially as we now have an economic system which in many respects resembles that of Marx's time far more than the dying (outside 'Scandinavia') social-democratic welfare dream of the mid 20th Century ever did.

ReplyDeleteThat we have regressed terribly. Which, as much as anything else, will assist the horrific political forces to which such conditions gave such vitality in the past.
