A socially ultraconservative, profoundly religious, diehard Eurosceptical party whose economic position is, if anything, Old Labour, just so long as plenty of that public spending is on the Ulster Protestant working class.
That it has lately been able to pick up so much middle-class support is in no small measure because nowhere illustrates better than Northern Ireland that an enormous level of central and local government action is essential to the existence of a functioning bourgeoisie.
What on earth has David Cameron to offer the DUP?
