Eric Pickles has at least allowed a return to the proper council committee system, although he has stopped short of what was really necessary, namely the requirement of such a return.
But on his watch, yet another policy has been ditched, in this case rather a good one. The combination of ideological lunacy and sheer incompetence does indeed make the Coalition what a Blair Government would have been like if there had never been any Gordon Brown.
So, how about a Brown Government would have been like if there had never been any Tony Blair? Better yet, how about what a Smith Government would have been like, since Blair had been planning to leave Parliament until he learned that Smith had died, fully mindful that, like Mandelson, he would not have been given so much as the time of day by the Great Man?
Ed Miliband, over to you.
Or if not, then over to someone else, and the sooner, the better.
