If Marian Price's activities were really disapproved of by the IRA, then she would no longer be alive. However, even she points to an important feature of the government of Northern Ireland, namely the impossibility of voting it out.
If the SDLP and the UUP really do want to survive, and assuming that they themselves have not joined the ranks of those who regard their parties as having outlived their purposes, then they should withdraw from ministerial office and function as opposition parties after the normal pattern of representative democracy.
After all, if everyone is in government all the time, so that no one is asking any questions, then whom does that leave? The TUV? The "dissident Republicans"?
