That splendid bastion of old-style trade union defence of universal entitlement to a public service, the Police Federation, is absolutely right that the Conservative Party is seeking retribution for its, the Fed's, successful scuppering of its silly and sinister schemes for policing in the 1990s.
Both in itself and as part of an emerging new Triple Alliance with the Prison Officers' Association and the Fire Brigades Union, the Police Federation is an important part of the coalition of resistance on the part of everyone who values public services and the combination of civilised incomes with sensible prices.
