That woman from Derby City Council on Radio Four last night was utterly honest in the way that utterly naive people often are. The problem with the Johns as foster parents was that they were weekly churchgoers.
She thought that this was so universally self-evident that she thought nothing of saying it out loud and in so many words. Needless to say, the fawning "interviewer" agreed with her, so did not pick her up on it.
As for the extremely hostile treatment of the Johns by the same "journalist", he saw the case against them as closed by the fact that they had dared to communicate with the Daily Mail, of which the BBC does not approve.
