A Mere Hundred Years

The blinking of an eye in the history of the House of Lords. And the length of time between the 1911 Parliament Act and the present day. Only with that Act did the Lords become a club for the convenience of its members, rather than the House of Parliament as which it has reasserted itself in the last week.

Their Lordships are back. And no one could be more pleased about that than the Labour Party. Which rather suggests that the Labour Party, properly so called, is at least on the way back. Thirty years on from the Wembley Conference and the Limehouse Declaration. History as poetry.
