The Benefits of Coalition
First, the Child Benefit fiasco. Then, the Housing Benefit fiasco. And now, the JSA fiasco, with claimants to be compelled to do "voluntarily" what are already other people's paid jobs. Cameron, Osborne and Clegg didn't know that. In fact, they don't know much. Exactly as much will come of this as came of the Child Benefit lark, or as is coming of the Housing Benefit lark. In a word, nothing.
The weird thing about this is that in New York State, if you claim unemployment benefit you are actually forbidden to do work, paid or unpaid.
ReplyDeleteYou are forbidden to do paid work here, too. Well, of course you are. But they are talking about making the unemployed sweep the streets, and that sort of thing. Other people are already paid to do things like that, as their livelihood. I think we can see where this is going.
