I yield to none in my distaste for that regime, kept going by the American blockade and by the sympathy thus engendered. But today's gloaters must want to put back the Cuba that existed before 1959: a drug den and brothel for America's super-rich. Conservative? Conservative of what?
Good points. Also, I am not sure how the failure of communism in Cuba somehow destroys the arguments for social democracy or distributism/guild socialism or other alternatives to liberal capitalism, which is how the Cuban story is being spun in some circles.
ReplyDeleteCan these folks really not see the differences between these systems? Or is it simply a political tactic to paint everything that isn't neoliberalism as totalitarian communism?
