I'm Not Lovin' It
Facebook announces a young associate's arrival in Italy yesterday to find that - brace yourselves for this one - because it was a public holiday, the shops were shut! In 2010! OMG, and all that. The little people had the day off, as if they mattered, as if they were somehow part of the public. Well, most of them did, anyway. "At least McDonald's has Western opening hours." LOL? No, neither did I.
Not long ago, a friend of mine returned from Italy and made the usual complaints about the lazy European workers having the holidays off, which put a damper on her ability to shop. Of course, she was on holiday from work herself. In the States, the assumption is that only certain kinds of people deserve holidays.
ReplyDeleteWho in Italy is going for a Big Mac on the Assumption? Or, for that matter, on a Sunday? Or, for that matter, at all? Italians are letting their guard slip. Before they know where they are, they will end up like us.
