Ed Balls played a key role in stopping Tony Blair from taking this country into the now-collapsed euro, which Britain would have joined at the start if Labour had not won the 1997 Election, or if Blair had been able to install whoever he had really wanted as Chancellor.
Following the failure of John McDonnell's uniquely broad-based candidacy, Balls is now supported by that sound Co-operator and, as befits a protégé of Janey Buchan, hammer both of the Balkanisation of Britain and of the cession of power to a supranational undemocracy, Ian Davidson. A man who has correctly identified New Labourites on the floor of the House as "Maoists and Trotskyists", and whose reservations about the monarchy could doubtless be outweighed by its importance in preserving the sovereignty and integrity of the United Kingdom, which Davidson rightly presents as absolutely essential to the attainment of the Labour Movement's ends.
All in all, just as it is unfortunate that the Andy Burnham candidate is Andy Burnham, so it is unfortunate that the Ed Balls candidate is Ed Balls.
