No First Strike
Going on strike is like going to war, to be undertaken as sparingly and to be conducted as carefully. This left-wing, far from pacifist blog is in principle as anti-strike as it is anti-war, although it accepts that just strikes are far more likely in practice than are just wars. The Arthur Scargills and Bob Crows of the world do as much damage to the defence of workers, by bringing that defence into disrepute, as the Dick Cheneys and Tony Blairs of the world do to the defence of nations, by bringing that defence into disrepute. But the courts must no more declare any strike, ever, to be illegal - as has in recent days come very close indeed to happening - than declare any war, ever, to be illegal.
