"Hypocrisy" does not begin to describe the differing approaches by the same people towards Roman Polanski, who had sex with a girl so young that even Peter Tatchell might raise his eyebrows just a little, and the Pope, who is guilty of nothing at all. But the American courts are now determined to give Polanski his just desserts. Not before time.
And those same courts have thrown out an attempt by some chancer to sue the Pope, What could possess anyone to imagine that such an action might have been successful in the first place? Unless it went the Church's way at an earlier stage, then it would certainly end up before the Supreme Court, where six of the nine Justices are Catholics, at least five are weekly Mass-goers, and at least four have by common consent some degree of affiliation to Opus Dei. Yet that, take note, is this campaign's best hope in the world.
Maybe they're not hypocrites but "homophobes." That should shut 'em up.
