If they must continue to hold Party Conferences, then could they at least hire venues that were the right size? Garden sheds, for example. Or rabbit hutches.
Neither. It is just something that anyone looking at what are now these absurd events is bound to think. Yet it really does seem to be invisible from the inside. How very, very sad. But how very, very funny all the same.
The observation that the (parliamentary) Liberal Party of the 1970s went to the House of Commons in one taxi .....and hired a second one for Cyril Smith......is standard fare. Hosting party conferences in phone kiosks (or whatever)is also standard. I suspect many young people have no knowledge of phone kiosks.
I don't think that the point could be more killingly made than by comparing them to the Liberals in the Seventies. Thank you for that one.
I'm going to do a post on the loss of public telephones, the next time that I have trouble with my mobile and can't find one when I really need to make a call. It's bound to happen again eventually.
very good! Is this yours?
ReplyDeleteIs it my what? And why?
ReplyDeleteIs it your line? I just remember hearing it somewhere else today, and wondered if they had heard it from you, or vice versa

ReplyDeleteRight - so in other words, it is yours? You haven't seen this written anywhere else today, and you cam up with it yourself?
ReplyDeleteWell, yes. What an extraordinary question.
ReplyDeleteAs I say, I can't imagine that I'm the only person to have noticed. It's the only notable thing about Party Conferences now.
