Pick Your Own Inquirers
How about a committee of Peter Kilfoyle, Edward Leigh, Sir Menzies Campbell, Geoffrey Wheatcroft and Seamus Milne?
Meeting in public and examining people under oath, of course.
Yes. And if they still don't give the result demanded by the chattering classes, the Guardian, the Independent and the BBC, simply hold another inquiry into why the inquiry gave the wrong result.
But Blair's media lackies were too spineless or too stupid to ask THE question at the press conference on his report. He was utterly astonished, having been all ready to give THE answer.
Blood has clearly been scented on this one. The agenda are being set by those who will never be satisfied by anything less than Blair's imprisonment. So, sooner or later, Blair is going down.
"Now that there is to be a new one Ingly it has to give the answer we want not the answer you want. Or what was the point of having it?"
Well, surely the point of it is to give an accurate account of the decisions taken in the run-up to war, and to suggest lessons which may be learned from this by future governments. The question of whether you or I like the answers is entirely beside the point.
I know exactly who wrote several of them and I have a very good idea about several more.
Unless you have an entirely accurate knowledge of the seating plan at a recent civic service in Durham Cathedral, AND of who my friends are and aren't within the Labour Party (or recently quit) in these parts, AND of who my friends are and aren't within the dear old University of Durham, AND of how distinguished the Saint Helenian side of my family is, AND...
Well, as you can see, it was the work of many hands, all right. I have never suggested that the people who hate me have no reason to. On the contrary, I am honoured both by the haters and by their reasons for hating.
There's nothing entertaining about him Tymmo. If you don't hate him you should.
Do a bit of digging about him around here and all the political and university stuff put up yesterday is true.
Do a bit of digging a bit further afield and the stuff about his family is also true, riddled with MBEs and things.
A very dangerous man who dares to criticise people on another thread for pretending to be anti-Establishment when they are not. What about him?
He has ruined the career of a man with a double doctorate who did little more than look at him the wrong way and now can only publish in his own college's in house journal because no one else will touch him.
He has also ruined the career of a rising political talent who dared to get a district council nomination ahead of him years ago but who came within a few votes of losing even his parish seat last time because Lindsay had been campaigning ceaselessly against him ever since.
These are not isolated examoles.
The great and the good here were always going to give him this seat this time. He has been plotting it with them since he was still at school. If Labour won't let them then too bad for Labour. Because of the local government changes here most of them have already left Labour anyhow.
As it happens, I do know a little about both of the people you cite, having met them personally (at least, I think so - you may be thinking of other people, as your references are somewhat cryptic). In both cases, their careers are doing perfectly well, and David is rather less central to their lives than they are to his. It's best not to take too seriously the seating arrangements at Cathedral services - people only care about these things when they have nothing better to care about.
If there careers are doing alright then you are definitely thinking of different people unless they are pretending to be much less ambitious then they once were and still deserve to be. Lindsay has ruined them for getting in his way. They are not the only ones.
Yes. And if they still don't give the result demanded by the chattering classes, the Guardian, the Independent and the BBC, simply hold another inquiry into why the inquiry gave the wrong result.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy prison as an accomplice, Ingly.
ReplyDeleteAnd what are we going to do with all Blair's money once it has rightly been seized as the proceeds of crime?
Butler gave the right result Ingly.
ReplyDeleteBut Blair's media lackies were too spineless or too stupid to ask THE question at the press conference on his report. He was utterly astonished, having been all ready to give THE answer.
ReplyDelete"Butler gave the right result Ingly"
ReplyDeleteOK. So, if you think that, why another inquiry?
"And what are we going to do with all Blair's money once it has rightly been seized as the proceeds of crime?"
Well, you could use it to buy some flying pigs.
Enjoy prison as an accomplice, Ingly.

Now that there is to be a new one Ingly it has to give the answer we want not the answer you want. Or what was the point of having it?
ReplyDeleteExactly, Chris.
ReplyDeleteExactly.

And we are not going to stop until we get it.
ReplyDeleteIn other words, we are not going to stop until Blair is in jail.
Enjoy prison as an accomplice, Ingly.
"Enjoy prison as an accomplice, Ingly"
ReplyDeleteEnjoy being an MP, David.
I will.
ReplyDeleteFor local reasons that need not detain us here, I almost already am.
"For local reasons that need not detain us here, I almost already am."
ReplyDeletePlease, David, do detain us. Otherwise we will be unable to credit this unlikely and implausible claim.
I'm sure that you can read between the lines of the comments that I probably shouldn't have allowed up yesterday.
ReplyDeleteNow, back on-topic, please.
Yes, but I wrote most of those as a joke, so I don't take them too seriously.
ReplyDeleteThere's many a true word spoken in jest.
ReplyDeleteA lot more false words though. On balance. I mean, chickens don't actually cross roads all that much. And most genies have excellent hearing.
I know exactly who wrote several of them and I have a very good idea about several more.

I certainly don't hate you, David. I find you enormously entertaining.

A very, very dangerous man.
Back on topic, please.

ReplyDeleteWithout necessarily disagreeing with you, I really wouldn't go round saying that last thing...

ReplyDeleteFor the last time, back on topic.
ReplyDeleteOr I'll close this thread, too.
Didn't one their sisters once scream down the street at you "You've ruined his career, You've ruined his career"?
ReplyDeleteYes.
ReplyDeleteBut I am a man of my word - this thread is now closed.
