Imagine, if you will, that David Cameron’s German accent had instead been employed by David Davis, or Nigel Farage, or Gordon Brown. Point made, I feel.
The Blairite Bodyguard Corps (formerly the British Broadcasting Corporation) is on fine form at the moment. Any word yet about the dodgy taxpayer-funded mortgage for this man who is fabulously rich anyway? No, of course not.
Compare and contrast with the treatment of Douglas Hogg and Sir Peter Viggers, each of whom received not one penny for his moat or his Duckingham Palace. Or with today’s treatment of Brian Binley, who was saving the taxpayer money.
But then, Binley, at least, is a member of the Cornerstone Group. And we can’t have that. Can we, Auntie?
Brian Binley's self-serving argument that he was saving the taxpayer money depends on our accepting that the property he originally rented was cheaper than any reasonable alternative. It may be cheaper than the place he's in now, but that's not the same thing. I live in London, in a decent-sized house, within easy commuting distance of Westminster, and I pay far less per month than he was claiming.
ReplyDeleteWhat is not in dispute, however, is that he was paying taxpayers' money directly to a company in which he had a personal financial interest.
Tricky is right. Binley was paying rent to himself, using public money - and then pretending that he did it to save the government money. He should never be allowed to stand for the Conservatives again.
ReplyDeleteWhat about Cameron, then?
