The Democrats dominated between 1932 and 1968, interrupted only by two terms of Eisenhower, a man despised by the Republican Party's own right wing.

And the Republicans dominated between 1968 and 2008, interrupted only by three terms of Carter and Clinton, men despised by the Democratic Party's own left wing (although that seems to have been forgotten now).

It is simply the Democrats' turn, and will be for a very long time.
