Yes, we really have become as greedy and materialistic as that: the mothers of two-year-olds must be conscripted into wage-slavery, and their infants farmed out to strangers so that they can be.
Instead, pay at least the poorer of those mothers to stay at home with their children.
You know what you have to do.
If some mothers looked after not only their own children but those of neighbours & got a bit of informal payment for it those who wanted to work could afford to do so. After all this is how it used to be fone, even back in the olden days when being a housewife meant a lot of hard physical work washing clothes & cleaning grates.
ReplyDeleteThe difference is that child care has instead been registered, taxed, regulated, nationalised, inspected, inspected a bit more & is thus now in need of being subsidised.
Yes, but there is also more to it than that. Our society is now so greedy that it requires mothers of very small children to earn wages, and expects others to expect payment in order to look after those mothers' children.
