Not a bit of it.
As the party alike of decadent economic libertinism as of decadent social libertinism, they are the true children of Roy Jenkins.
As the party alike of decadent social libertinism as of decadent economic libertinism, the Tories are the true children of Margaret Thatcher.
And as both, New Labour are the true children of Tony Blair.
What's that you say? That makes them all exactly the same...?
Oh, come off it! 2005 should have been the Lib Dims' big breakthrough year. Unfortunately they blew it by campaigning on a Hard-Left platform and got nowhere. Now that the Liberal element in the Party have gone through with their hilariously brutal and embarrassing coup against the hapless Social Democrat element, and with the Tories riding high in the polls, the Party as a whole is now lurching to the Right. The likes of the lunatic Evan Harries are now flailing miserably. (Schadenfreude, thou wert never so sweet!)
ReplyDeleteThe whole world is moving rightwards. Even the Lib Dims are trying to catch up. The future for Socialism, at least in the western Developed World, does not look bright.
You don't read the papers or watch the news, then?
ReplyDeleteIs aelfhere for real?
ReplyDeleteRepeat after me: Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, Lehman Brothers, Merril Lynch, George Bush, John McCain.
We are all Socialists now.
Except the Lib Dems, it seems.
