The Tory Right now has no reason whatever to put up with Cameron. I give him till Christmas, if he's lucky.
Meanwhile, the people who can't add up are out in force, I see. No, the Tories would not have won. For that to happen (next month, next year, whenever), practically nobody now has to vote for anyone else at all. At best, whenever the next Election happens, the Tories are going to pile up enormous majorities in a few dozen seats, the way Labour used to do with the miners. And where are the miners now?
But without the Tory "threat" (which has not existed electorally since the autumn of 1992, or politically since 1997 if not some time in the late Forties), what is the point of the Labour Party? The next Parliament will kill off the Tory Party, and therefore also the Labour Party.
David: "I give him till Christmas, if he's lucky".
ReplyDeleteI'll go put a swift bet on him being the longest serving party leader, then...
The Tories' tragedy is that you are right. He has already lasted remarkably long. But there isn't going to be an Election until 2006, John Redwood is somehow everywhere again, Michael Ancram pops up quite frequently, and so forth.
ReplyDeleteAll in all, David Davis as the compromise candidate looks increasingly likely. And bye bye to those who think that it is enough merely to be able to afford a cocaine habit.
In other words, bye bye to the Tories as such. And therefore also bye bye to the Labour Party.
You've not said which Christmas.
