Absolutely nothing by me is now permitted to appear on the
Guardian's Comment Is Free blog. Comments saying that the way to amuse oneself around elderly Jews is to bark orders in German and see how many obey, are fine. But my views, exactly as also stated here, on Russia, or on Tony Lit, or on indefinite detention without charge, are entirely beyond the pale.
Isn't comment moderation awful?
ReplyDeleteI was just thinking the same thing myself. At least whoever does it for CiF is presumably getting paid. It is extremely time-consuming, but, I suppose, no more so than having to weed out all the abusive and defamatory comments from those who insist that no one reads this blog, but who themselves seem to do so with an obsessive hatred not obviously compatible with sanity.
ReplyDeleteSo you're saying that every single comment on the 12 posts below this one is abusive and defamatory? Is that why no comments appear there now? Must be extremely time-consuming, indeed.
ReplyDeleteNot every single one of them has attracted any comments, which could just mean that people agree with them or feel that there is nothing to add. Also, I receive a lot of emails about things on this blog, from people who would rather not post on the thing itself.
ReplyDeleteI have a theory that if I took off the comment moderation, the bile-spewers would now just go away. I might test it tomorrow. But yes, there wouldn't then be much left. However, as I said, that needn't necessarily be a problem, since I know for a fact that plenty of people read this blog, whether or not they choose to comment on what they read. For a start, plenty of people insist very forcefully here on it that they don't read it, and that nor does anybody else.
