With three times more members than the Labour Party, Unite has refused to endorse the Labour manifesto, but not so as to make any difference by disaffiliating. Yet two years into a Starmer Government, when the General Secretaryship was next up for election, disaffiliation would be enormously popular. Every penny that anyone other than the unions gives to the Labour Party buys something specific, as does every penny than anyone gives to the Conservative Party. Only we fund a political party in order to be abused by it. Even in normal times, what are we paying for?
