As the NATO circus comes to town, then all the attention will be on Donald Trump. But he is the least of our worries. He has already described NATO as "obsolete", which is more than the Labour manifesto has managed to do.
NATO, and thus also the Labour manifesto, commit us to the defence of Turkish Islamists and of Eastern European neo-Nazis, with more of the latter to come, and with Latin American caudillos also waiting in the wings. Of course, it was founded by people who had very recently been senior Nazi officers.
As was the EU, which even now remains committed to eastward military expansion, as well as to permanent austerity through such things as the Growth and Stability Pact. Hence, on both counts, the enthusiastic support of the Liberal Democrats.
With the completely ignored pro-Brexit Left, the Lib Dems are the only people in Britain who even seem to know what everyone on the Continent understands implicitly about the EU. Britain has been in it longer than almost anywhere else, yet the EU remains an entirely foreign land to most people here.
With a million people in the United Kingdom employed by American companies, and with a million people in the United States employed by British companies, then where is the need for a free trade agreement? The whole thing is being mooted purely in order to threaten the National Health Service.
And if Rishi Sunak truly believes that the Russians have activated a weapon of mass destruction, even if to no mass destructive effect, on the soil of the United Kingdom, then the deterrent value of Trident has already been proven to be nil.
There is only 57 per cent public support for Trident. There was a lot more than 57 per cent public support for EU membership a mere five years ago. The anti-Trident case could be won, if anyone could be bothered to make it. Once again, then, it is a shame about the Labour manifesto.
Another hung Parliament is coming, however, and we need our people to hold the balance of power in it. I am standing for Parliament here at North West Durham. The crowdfunding page is here, and buy the book here. Please email davidaslindsay@hotmail.com. Very many thanks.
