Class Politics

Scotland was nothing more than a whetting of the appetite. Down here, in popular or compulsory subjects, schools have been allocated a number of each grade based on their past performance, with teachers then told to rank the pupils in the class. Grades will be awarded by putting these two processes together. Indeed, they already have been. This is class politics in the raw.

Nothing is ever "for one year only". Once this had happened once, as it already has, then some way of "incorporating aspects" of it will always now be found. Look at who it suits. Both the allocation of the grade quotas, and the ranking of the pupils, has been done by exactly the sort of people who want Keir Starmer to become Prime Minister. They are highly likely to be card-carrying members of the Labour Party.

What next, legacy places at university? Such was New Labour's deployment of the supposedly unanswerable argument that "They do it like that in America", that the wonder is that we do not already have legacy places at university.
