True and Fair?

Calling to mind David Van Day's Bucks Fizz, Gina Miller's True and Fair Party is to be launched on Thursday. Of course, the true and fair centre ground of British political opinion seeks to strengthen families and communities by securing economic equality and international peace through the democratic political control of the means to those ends, including national and parliamentary sovereignty.

It is a world away from the self-styled centrists and moderates, who are the most extreme and anti-democratic element of British politics, wishing, for example, to privatise the National Health Service, but only in England, and wishing to wage war, both on behalf of Ukrainian Nazis, and alongside them in support of an Islamist invasion of Kazakhstan. At the same time, their idol is on the payroll of the existing regime in Kazakhstan. But then, he is also on the payroll of Saudi Arabia, which is behind the invasion.

Liz Truss and Keir Starmer would restore to hegemony this economic and social liberalism that the use of soft power where possible but hard power where necessary had made unquestionable at home, so that the use of soft power where possible but very hard power where necessary could spread it across the whole wide earth by means of an unquestionable alliance between the European Union and the United States, an alliance with Britain at both its cultural and its military heart. A well-publicised party of that ideology would assist Truss and Starmer no end. "Look," they would tell their respective parties, "that is who we have to beat."

We may wish the True and Fair Party, or indeed any party led by either Truss or Starmer, all the success of Change UK. Whatever happened to Change UK? Unless, and I have been genuinely unable to ascertain this, it is the policy of the Alliance Party that the United Kingdom, as such, ought to re-join the European Union, then neither that nor even another referendum on the subject is any longer the formal position of any party with representation in the House of Commons, strongly though huge numbers of MPs across the official spectrum would indeed like to be back in the EU.

You are wildly unlikely to remember who Luciana Berger ever was, insofar as she was ever anyone, but for a while she had rather a lot to say about me, tweeting at least once that she was going to have this site taken down. She would be more than welcome to contest this seat of North West Durham against me, whether for the True and Fair Party, or for the party that was led by the man who had staked his own Leadership on her willingness to re-join it, or for the party that would by then be led by a woman who had entered Parliament by very much the same route as Berger herself had taken.

If she did not stand at North West Durham, then my election literature would point out that she had run away and hidden from me. Whether she did or she did not, then it would retell the well-known story of how she had ever become a Member of Parliament in the first place. That story is True, and such campaigning is Fair.
