Voting Rights

When it does, then the Conservative Party elects its Leader by One Member One Vote, and there is no suggestion that it regress to anything else.

In 2019, that system gave it a Leader about whom the majority of its then MPs was at best ambivalent. A few months later, it won a General Election by a landslide. It had lost its overall majority at the previous one, under a Leader who had been chosen only by those MPs.

It is laughable to suggest that MPs, who are mostly lifelong political obsessives and who are all on vast salaries plus gargantuan expenses, are more in touch with ordinary people than ordinary people are.

Just as it is laughable to suggest that anyone would now join a party that did not elect its Leader by One Member One Vote, instead expecting the common people to gaze in awe on the dazzling brilliance of, for example, the Parliamentary Labour Party.

Almost as laughable as suggesting the few remaining party members are in touch with ordinary people.

    1. Whose few remaining members are those? But there will certainly be such once this went through.
