Free voter ID, you say? So how would people identify themselves when they went along to collect it? And if that would do, then why would they need voter ID as well?
It is very odd for a Government that had been elected with a huge majority to suggest that electoral fraud was rife. Or that the boundaries were wrong, come to that.
The Starmerite classes will be the people checking whether or not your voter ID met their specifications, and their word will literally be law. The Conservatives have not come to terms with the change in their own electoral base.
Mercifully, we are useless at this kind of thing in this country. It'll never work. But there will be injustices along the way to the inevitable abandonment of this scheme. I give it one round of elections.
