Mind Your Language

This is a respectable blog, so please do not swear or make obscene references when posting comments (which I simply haven't the time to moderate, and wouldn't really want to anyway). Thank you.

  1. Oh, if you only knew the volume of emails that I receive about this blog! If your own blog were accessible, then you might. Why isn't it?

  2. If "hell" is a swear word, then Jesus had a filthy mouth. He didn't.

"If I didn't know what an evil sanctimonious vindicative young man you are then I would be almost speechless"! Gosh! Based on a rather silly remark elsewhere on this blog, did I once steal YOUR girlfriend? It certainly narrows down the suspects, though in some very surprising ways...

BFL, are you seriously saying taht you can't be bothered to maintain a blog of your own but keep a blogger account just to post comments here?

  3. Whether you or I will ever be PM, who knows? But neither of us will ever be Leader of the Labour Party, since it is certainly not going to exist in 10 years time, and probably not even in five.

Exactly as Blair has always wanted, of course: he hates the Labour Party specifically, we all know that; but less remarked upon is his disdain for parties generally, preferring a situation in which huge numbers of undergraduate (or even younger) paid staff are brought in at Election time and then go away again.

  4. Just look at his record. In particular, you surely aren't disputing that he hates the Labour Party? That is what appeals about him to the people to whom he has ever appealed at all (never anywhere near as many as it was once fashionable to pretend, and practically none now).

  5. He might have vaguely liked it once. But after a while he was just stuck in it. He became an MP so soon after joining that he didn't really have any choice but to stay. And he'd have been looking at divorce if he'd tried to leave. My guess is that he never liked Labour, he just fancied Cherie.

More than anything, he wants Labour to be something else; something more metropolitan, upper-middle-class, socially liberal, Europhile and pro-American; like the SDP, or certain things on the Continent, or the Clinton type of Demcrats in the US.

His constituency house is five miles out of Durham and he never attends the Big Meeting. Says it all, really: he just can't stand the people at such a thing.

But, as I said, he doesn't really believe in parties anyway.

  6. It's a bit specialist to be sold there unless you ordered it in, I expect (although I might be wrong). With any luck, the Cathedral bookshop in Durham will stock it in the fullness of time, i.e, whenever it comes out.

Your "ladies in Lanchester" should be aware that Fleming is already having a wild, passionate affair. And this time, it's not with himself.

  7. I assume that you mean the book I've already submitted (which is entirely by me), not 'Left and Right Will Unite and Fight'? The latter really will attract a lot of attention, mostly because of certain other contributors to it from here and from abroad.
